Mohan is a senior litigator and was admitted to the Singapore bar in 1993. He has more than two decades of advocacy experience, appearing as lead counsel before all courts and arbitral tribunals in Singapore on a wide range of general and commercial disputes, with particular focus on all aspects of shipping/admiralty/transportation, insurance (marine and non-marine), energy and offshore, and international trade/commodities. Mohan was among the first select group of legal practitioners to be recognised and accredited in 2019 by the Singapore Academy of Law as Senior Accredited Specialist in Maritime and Shipping law.

On the wet shipping side, Mohan has advised and represented shipowners, charterers and P&I clubs in relation to numerous maritime casualties including groundings, collisions, shipboard fatalities and oil pollution incidents, and is regularly ranked as one of the leading maritime casualty lawyers in Singapore. Notable casualties handled by Mohan include the Evoikos/Orapin Global collision in 1997, which caused the largest oil spill in Singapore’s history, the Ever Glory/Hual Trinita collision in 1998, the Bunga Kelana 3/Waily collision in 2010, which also caused widespread oil pollution in Singapore, the Oceanus Leader/United Fortitude collision in 2014, and the Alyarmouk/Sinar Kapuas collision in 2015, the Global Vanguard/Thor Achiever collision in 2017 and Kartika Segara/JBB De Rong 19 collision in 2017.

Mohan is also considered a market leader on dry shipping matters, with an active practice advising and representing owners and charterers on charterparty, bill of lading, COA, and bunker disputes, as well acting for owners and ship managers on ship management and ship building disputes. He additionally acts for traders in relation to commodity sale and purchase contracts and letter of credit disputes.

Mohan has received numerous accolades in legal directories such as Chambers Asia Pacific where he has been recognised “as a standout name in shipping” with “extensive admiralty experience” and “is very knowledgeable and highly capable”.

Mohan has also advised and represented clients in general and commercial matters, both contentious and non-contentious, involving employment law, directors’/shareholders’ disputes, corporate/commercial disputes, corporate and individual insolvency, and in constructive trust/tracing claims.

Mohan is regularly appointed as arbitrator to hear shipping, commodities and commercial disputes.
