Alvin is a commercial lawyer with experience in litigation, international arbitration, corporate insolvency, and insurance recovery. He acts for clients from various industries, including companies in the energy and natural resources sector, as well as the shipping sector.
As counsel, Alvin has appeared on behalf of his clients in the Singapore courts, including in trials before the Singapore High Court involving a commodities dispute and a claim under a tenancy agreement for commercial property. Alvin frequently acts for clients in maritime and shipping matters, including ship arrests, marine casualty investigations, charterparty disputes, and cargo claims. Alvin wears a slightly different hat at times when he acts as counsel for clients in mediation to assist them in resolving their disputes outside the courtroom.
Alvin also advises clients on various commercial and regulatory issues, including on employment law. Alvin assists start-ups with various legal issues and is keenly aware of the unique challenges faced by their founders. Alvin makes time to volunteer frequently at various pro bono legal clinics, as he believes strongly in improving access to justice for the less privileged.
Alvin was previously seconded to clients in the insurance-brokerage field and in the container shipping line.
Alvin is an Accredited Specialist in Maritime and Shipping Law under the Singapore Academy of Law Specialist Accreditation Scheme.
